The Detroit Lions have added a veteran piece to their wide receiver room with the signing of Cedrick Wilson Jr. from the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday. Wilson was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft at No. 208 overall out of Boise State.Â
In addition to his time with the Cowboys and the Dolphins, Wilson also played with the New Orleans Saints in 2024. During his seven-year NFL career, Wilson has recorded 126 receptions for 1,524 yards and 12 touchdowns.Â
What will Cedrick Wilson Jr.'s role be with the Lions?
Last season with a struggling Dolphins squad, Wilson appeared in 10 games and recorded five receptions for 44 yards. Given how talented the Lions' wide receiver room is entering the 2026 season with Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Isaac TeSlaa, it’ll be interesting to see what role the veteran has in a loaded group.
Whether Wilson earns a spot on the Lions' final 2026 roster by the time Detroit kicks off its season against the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 13 at Ford Field remains to be seen. Â
Key wide receivers that the Lions added this offseason, both in free agency, include Kentucky wide receiver Kendrick Law, who was selected in the fifth round, and Greg Dortch from the Arizona Cardinals. Tom Kennedy, Dominic Lovett, Jackson Meeks, and Malik Cunningham are the Lions wide receivers who will be battling for a spot on the Lions final 53-man roster for the 2026 NFL season.Â

Following a 2025 season in which the Lions fell short of expectations, finishing at 9-8 overall and last in the NFC North, Detroit aims to bounce back, and the performance of their wide receivers will play a pivotal role in the team reclaiming its crown as kings of the division.Â
Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams are expected to build off their 1,000-yard receiving seasons, but it's the performance of Isaac TeSlaa that many Lions fans are excited to watch. TeSlaa is looking to take a major leap forward after a rookie season, showing flashes of his potential with spectacular one-handed touchdown grabs. TeSlaa finished his rookie season with 16 receptions, 239 yards, and six touchdowns.
