Jared Goff vaults himself right back into MVP race with bounce-back performance
By Max DeMara
The Detroit Lions were a week removed from witnessing the worst performance Jared Goff has ever had with the franchise, but it didn't take long for the quarterback to erase those bad feelings.
Goff was far from perfect in Week 10 throwing five interceptions, but he was close to perfect against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11. From start to finish, Goff put on a show, managing to flush the tough feelings from last week by remaining confident and carving up the Jaguars.
"Last week was tough, but I was confident in the way I played and what I knew had happened, what went wrong, what I had to fix and all the things, Goff said. "So I wasn't dwelling on it. I knew I had to pick up where I left off and just keep on going. Those guys rallied behind me and (I) distributed it to them as best I could."
As quickly as folks proclaimed Goff to be a dead man walking in the MVP race, his candidacy was easily revived on Sunday with 412 yards and four touchdowns along with a perfect 158.3 passer rating, it's easy to say that Goff can't be ignored just yet. There are plenty of games left, and minus the one clunker, Goff has been far more good than bad this season
When the Lions needed him the most, Goff stepped up and delivered his best statistical performance of the year. No matter the level of competition, it's impressive when a quarterback is effective and efficient. Goff was both to help the Lions easily dispatch the Jaguars.
Dan Campbell praises Detroit Lions' offense for fantastic, complete effort
While Goff may have deserved a game ball all his own for his fantastic performance, Dan Campbell didn't want to single him out.
"Everybody on offense is getting a game ball for that, Campbell said. "I mean, you get over 600 yards of offense, 5-5 in the red zone, whatever that was. Third-down was outstanding. I dont know how many explosives we had but it was a ton. Then the first-downs, (38) first-downs. That's just a collective effort. It takes a lot of guys to be able to do that."
The entire Lions' offense was awesome on Sunday, but it takes a special effort at quarterback to lead the way. Goff's performance proves why he can't be ignored in the MVP race just yet.
