Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has been one of the most consistent playmakers in the league for the last several seasons, still managing to piece together a solid 2025 season with the team despite record-high sacks taken and incessant pressure thanks to a shoddy offensive line.
The Lions' intentional work this offseason to put Goff in a far better position to succeed through their offensive line signings, shifts, and drafting should make him an even scarier quarterback to have to deal with in 2026. That's why it's completely deserved to have him land at 33rd overall in the NFL's Top 100 ranking ahead of this year.

"He’s coming off one of his most trying seasons in recent years, during which the offense developed a reputation for stagnating too often as Dan Campbell eventually took over play-calling, but the final numbers -- teamwise and Goff’s individually -- don't bear that out. The Lions finished fourth in scoring, while Goff placed second in the league in passing yards and touchdown passes as he put up his second-lowest interception rate through five years in Detroit."
Goff's landing spot on NFL Top 100 should scare NFC North
The NFC North is going to be one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL this season, if not the most competitive.
The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers are on the rise, while the Minnesota Vikings are hoping to land in a better position at quarterback to unlock the rest of their teams' potential. Detroit is likely the most consistent of the four teams, though, with Goff a mainstay within the teams' offense and many of their key cogs having been with the team for multiple years.
It's Goff's work specifically, though, that should really scare the NFC North this year. With a much improved offensive line, it's hard to imagine a world where he doesn't improve even more upon an already good 2025 season. Having such an accurate and durable passer is a luxury, and one that teams like the Vikings or Bears don't have yet.

He's so good that even Micah Parsons had to give him props in the NFL's video on Goff's ranking, with the edge rusher saying, "Jared, he's been super consistent over the years. You kind of gotta be very decisive and quick."
Another conference rival, Los Angeles Rams safety Quentin Lake, echoed Parsons's sentiment, saying of Goff, "...he's pinpoint accurate. He does a great job of understanding the situation and making checks, too. That's what I love about him, he's smart. One of my good friends, St. Brown, they work in a two-man tandem like no other. Like, they are on it.
It's funny how many players seem to respect Goff's game, accuracy, and intelligence about the game, while fans of other teams or even Lions fans themselves tend to talk themselves out of him entirely.
Ultimately, the numbers and eye test don't lie when it comes to Goff - he is one of the most consistent, reliable, and accurate quarterbacks in the league, and he's got a heck of an offense around him that can post historic numbers in any given season. This is a huge advantage that Detroit has on the rest of the NFC North.
