It stands to reason that Jameson Williams is due for a "bounce back" season.
Williams, who recorded 1,117 receiving yards on 65 receptions, along with his seven touchdowns and 17.2 average yards after catch, still wasn't really utilized to his full potential in 2025. A flat offense, initially run by then-offensive coordinator John Morton, seemed to be avoiding Williams' speed and length altogether in favor of Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs as a two-headed beast.
Detroit Lions wide receiver coach Scottie Montgomery told reporters that he's excited about where Williams "is right now."
"This is definitely, by far, been his best off season. His best, you know, chance to grow as a player since we've been here for a number of reasons. But, he's done a good job."
Williams could make first All-Pro team with huge 5th season
Williams, who earned a contract extension from the Lions ahead of the 2025 season worth $80 million over three years, has yet to make an All-Pro team in his short career with the Lions and in the NFL. He did have two shortened seasons in 2023 and 2024 due to gambling policy and substance abuse policy violations in subsequent years, but he was solid for Detroit in 2025.
Becoming a more consistent piece in the Lions' offense is one thing, but improving on his few flaws is another. He's keenly aware that he has to become a more reliable pass catcher in this system, as he told LionsOnSI's John Maakaron that he wanted to become a stronger receiver in crossing routes this year.

It's a crowded receiving room that Williams is competing for touches in, but one thing that new offensive coordinator Drew Petzing seems to like in his scheme is play action passes. This could open the door for a huge year from Williams if he's able to remain strong in those routes that get him open downfield, as he's tough to chase down once he's secured the football on a deep pass.
A lot is hinging on the Lions' offense this season. If their defense still can't get healthy, or at the very least coordinated, to begin the year, the offense will once again be bearing the brunt of carrying them until the defense does figure it out. Under Petzing, Williams might have a big role in carrying the offense and acting as the teams' best big-play option.
