Four weeks after running back Jahmyr Gibbs was snubbed for NFC Offensive Player of the Week, Gibbs brings home the honor for his masterful Week 5 performance against the Arizona Cardinals.
Gibbs was named to the weekly honor for the fourth time in his career after rushing for 151 yards on 25 carries. He also added 56 yards on five receptions, for a total of 207 scrimmage yards. Gibbs also rushed for two touchdowns in the Lions' dominant 45-21 win over the Cardinals.
Gibbs beat out numerous other fantastic offensive performances, including that of his own quarterback Jared Goff. Goff threw for 271 passing yards and three TDs. Goff also added another TD on the ground after a goal-line QB sneak that was set up by a 22-yard Gibbs run to bring the Lions to the Cardinals' two-yard line.
Despite Goff's MVP-level performance, Gibbs stood out a bit more on Sunday as he continues his potentially record-breaking season.
Another week for Gibbs in a season for the record books
Sunday's game against the Cardinals added another bullet point in Gibbs' already record-breaking résumé. With his second score, Gibbs broke the NFL record set by Lions legend Barry Sanders for most TDs before turning 25 (58). And he'll have plenty of opportunities to add to that record as he doesn't turn 25 until March.
This season, Gibbs has a league-leading 747 scrimmage yards and nine total touchdowns. Those nine TDs put him just under the pace of 31, which is the NFL record for RRTDs set by Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson 20 years ago. The 747 scrimmage yards are also on pace for an NFL record, which is currently held by "CJ2K" Chris Johnson at 2,509, that was set in 2009 when Johnson was, like Gibbs now, 24 years old.

As the new bell cow RB in Detroit, Gibbs is currently on pace to set his career highs in rushing yards by over 300 yards and rushing TDs by nearly eight. If Gibbs reaches that 24 rushing TD mark that he's on pace for, it will exceed the current franchise record, 17 set by Jamaal Williams in 2022, by seven.
And Gibbs is doing all of that while the offense gets off to sluggish starts in each of the five games so far. That pace could pick up as the season goes on, making these records far more realistic.
But seasons aren't judged by pace, especially five games in. It takes building a season brick-by-brick, week-by-week. Winning an Offensive Player of the Week award is a good sign that Gibbs is building something special in 2026.
