The Detroit Lions had a horrible scene play out against the Dallas Cowboys as Aidan Hutchinson was lost to a gruesome leg injury in the third-quarter.
Already in command against the Cowboys, Hutchinson closed in on Dak Prescott for a sack. During the play, Hutchinson's leg collided with Alim McNeill's from behind. Hutchinson laid on the turf for several minutes before a cart was dispatched to take him to the locker room.
Quickly after that, Hutchinson was ruled out by the Lions with what was called a lower leg injury. Amid the initial shock, many folks began to share their thoughts of Hutchinson and the injury on X.
Here's a sampling of some of the rapid-fire reactions to Hutchinson leaving a blowout with a very unfortunate looking ailment.
J.J. Watt immediately notes 'horrific' nature of Aidan Hutchinson's injury
If there was one person who would understand how horrific such an injury is for a defensive end, it is Watt. For years, he set the bar for all young pass rushers to follow, and immediately reacted with shock and disappointment.
Watt, now an analyst for CBS, clearly hated what he saw when Hutchinson went down after the injury. It likely brought back plenty of painful memories from his own career in the trenches.
Skip Bayless sends his best wishes to Hutchinson for a full recovery
Even ardent Cowboy fans are upset about what they witnessed with Hutchinson. Despite the fact that Dallas was being blown out, Bayless took time out to note what a huge loss Hutchinson was for Detroit given he is the top pass rusher in the NFL.
As Bayless correctly points out, no matter what the injury ends up for Hutchinson, the key will now be in recovering and finding a way to respond following his first major setback in the pros.
Robert Griffin III, Dan Orlovsky send prayers to Hutchinson immediately following injury
If there's any player who understands the gravity of a devastating injury, it is Griffin III, who endured a painful ACL tear during a playoff game in 2012. As such, he kept things short and sweet as a tribute for Hutchinson.
Orlovsky, a former Lions quarterback, was also very frustrated with the injury, and took time to offer his prayers.
Certainly, prayer is something Hutchinson is going to need right now, as he is likely to feel low following an injury which is likely to be season-ending. These former players want to see Hutchinson stay strong.
Evan Fox worries about how the Detroit Lions will replace Hutchinson this year
With Hutchinson likely on the shelf for the foreseeable future, it's impossible for everyone not to think about how the Lions will go about replacing one of the league's top edge rushers. Fox, from "The Pat McAfee Show," isn't sure a quick-fix exists.
Naturally, many names will begin to surface in the coming days in the court of public opinion. It's possible that Maxx Crosby, Haason Reddick and others will garner attention. Regardless of that, there might be no way to accurately replace Hutchinson.
