The 2026 NFL Draft is now in the books, and general manager Brad Holmes and the Detroit Lions made big moves tackling positions of need like right tackle, EDGE, and cornerback.
But it's never too early to talk about the 2027 draft, right? Well, we have no idea how the 2026 season will go or which number each pick will be. We do know how many 2027 picks the Lions currently have and which rounds they will be.
Detroit Lions 2027 Draft Picks:
Round | Acquired |
|---|---|
1 | Own |
2 | Own |
3 | Own |
4 | Own |
5 | Own |
6 | Own |
6 | Compensatory (Amik Robertson) |
7 | Own |
7 | Compensatory (Al-Quadin Muhammad) |
As of now, the Lions own all of their original picks for 2027. That can naturally change with the mid-season trade deadline and even during the 2027 Draft itself. Holmes does love his draft day trades, as evidenced by the trade-up to select EDGE Derrick Moore in the second round this year.
Where do the compensatory picks come from?
The Lions are set to receive two compensatory selections. Per Over the Cap, the Lions will receive a sixth-rounder for cornerback Amik Robertson after he left to sign with the Washington Commanders. They'll also receive a seventh-rounder for EDGE Al-Quadin Muhammad signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Lions could've added another sixth and seventh rounder for the departures of linebacker Alex Anzalone and defensive tackle Roy Lopez, but those were cancelled out by the signings of center Cade Mays and OT Larry Borom.

The Lions could add additional compensatory picks for other means, such as for minority executive and coaching departures. Defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard, for example, was one of the leading candidates for the Miami Dolphins head coaching gig. A great season out of the Lions' defense, and he should be a hotter commodity next offseason.
If Sheppard gets hired as a head coach elsewhere, the Lions would receive a third-round compensatory pick in both 2027 and 2028. Speaking of the 2028 Draft, the Lions have all of their own picks and nothing more. The same goes for 2029, which they're now permitted to send out in trades per the three-year rule, where teams are only allowed to trade picks from the next three drafts.
The 2027 Draft is a long way away, but all it takes is a successful season for it to arrive fast. So it's always good to know where the Lions stand with their picks for when that time comes.
