Graham Glasgow, the Detroit Lions' center from last year and previous guard with the team, has officially been released. The Lions announced the move on Monday afternoon.

Glasgow, 33, is set to hit free agency as one of the cheaper options for teams in need of starting guard play or, at least, a backup at center. By cutting Glasgow, the Lions are saving $5.5 million against the cap, and are now closer to breaking even ahead of free agency.

The lineman had a pretty rough season with the Lions, winning the center job following Frank Ragnow's retirement over then-rookie Tate Ratledge, only to have a subpar season snapping balls to Jared Goff. He's a better guard, which should be enticing to several teams who have a need for one in their trenches.

Glasgow officially released by Lions ahead of free agency

Glasgow was drafted by the Lions back in 2016, bouncing between Detroit to the Denver Broncos for three seasons, until he finally came back to the Lions. He was shuffled around the line a ton over his career with the Lions, sacrificing stability for the team numerous times.

Detroit is struggling with their cap, however, and he was an obvious cut candidate. While he doesn't save the team a lot of money, it's a good start for general manager Brad Holmes. Now, the Lions are likely set to look at restructuring some of their bigger deals to open up even more spending room.

Glasgow started in 14 games for Detroit, posting a 56.8 PFF grade overall on the year. That was good for 33rd out of 40 centers in the NFL. It seems like Detroit either has a plan in place to replace Glasgow given how quick they were to release him ahead of free agency, or they're hoping that they've found something in Ratledge to invest in at the center position.

Following the teams' trade of David Montgomery, which netted them Juice Scruggs in addition to draft capital, it felt like the writing was on the wall for the veteran. The team needs all the depth they can get at center right now, and that's because of how badly the Glasgow experiment went in 2025.
