Apart from what remains an incredibly lengthy list of players who are on IR, there's been a lot of good injury news for the Detroit Lions lately. Some players could possibly return in the playoffs, and some are nearing a return to action a bit sooner.
In Week 17 the Lions will travel to take on the San Francisco 49ers. Of course it's a rematch of last year's NFC Championship Game, albeit without the weight it had when the season started since the 49ers are eliminated from playoff contention. With a win a little help from a division rival on Sunday, the Lions can clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.
The practice reports for the Lions this week have been refreshingly unremarkable. That said, wide receiver Kalif Raymond (foot) returned to practice on Thursday as he moves toward being activated from IR.
Final Detroit Lions Week 17 injury report
Here is the final Week 17 injury report for the Lions, with statuses for Monday night's game.
- RB David Montgomery (knee)-Out
- WR Kalif Raymond (foot)-Out
- LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin (neck)-Questionable
- CB Terrion Arnold (illness)-No designation
- OG Graham Glasgow (knee)-No designation
Montgomery may be back for the Divisional Round of the playoffs, as he rehabs the MCL injury in his right knee rather than have what would've been season-ending surgery. He hasn't, and won't be at this point, placed on IR.
Head coach Dan Campbell was not optimistic Raymond would be activated and play Monday night, so it's no surprise he's out. Look for Raymond to be ready to go in Week 18 against the Minnesota Vikings.
After Campbell had not sounded optimistic about when (or if?) he might return this season, Reeves-Maybin returned to practice last week. Three full practices this week point to him being activated for Monday night, but he's officially listed as questionable. There is one open spot on the 53-man roster to accommodate activating Reeves-Maybin.
Arnold popped up on Thursday's practice report with an illness. He progressed to being a limited participant on Friday, and after a full practice on Saturday he's good to go for Monday night.
Glasgow missed last week's game with a knee injury. Campbell clearly expected a return to the lineup when this week started, and the Lions' left guard is good to go for Monday night.
Here's the final Week 17 injury report for the 49ers. Running back Isaac Guerendo (foot, hamstring) is expected to play, and he has no injury designation.
- OL Spencer Burford (calf)-Out
- OG Aaron Banks (knee)-Out
- LB Dre Greenlaw (Achilles)-Out
- DE Robert Beal (ankle)-Out
- OT Colton McKivitz -Questionable
- CB Charvarius Ward (personal)-Out (downgraded on Sunday)
- S J'iAyir Brown ankle)-Questionable
- LB Tatum Bethune (knee)-Questionable
