Father of All-Pro edge rusher likes idea of his son teaming with Aidan Hutchinson
The 2024 season for Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson will go down as "what might have been." Despite suffering a broken leg in Week 6, he's still in the top-25 of the league in quarterback pressures and top-20 among the league's edge rushers in pressures.
Za'Darius Smith has filled the void left by Hutchinson's injury very nicely, with three sacks in four games as Lion along with the third-most pressures in the league over that span (19). While Smith feels likely to be back with the Lions next season, it's a question and a long-term running mate for Hutchinson should generally be on the radar come the offseason.
It seems unlikely the Lions would make a really big move to add an edge rusher to pair with Hutchinson, if only due to having to make room for a future contract such a player would be worth. But that won't keep hypothetical scenarios from coming out.
Father of All-Pro edge rusher likes idea of son being traded to Lions to team with Aidan Hutchinson
On the "Life In The Stands" podcast. Terrance Parsons, father of Dallas Cowboys' linebacker Micah Parsons, was asked where he would like to see his son traded to if a long-term deal with Dallas can't be worked out.
The Lions were on the list of three teams.
"My top three teams: Kansas City, Detroit. Pittsburgh. And, I know Pittsburgh fans is like, 'whoa'. But, I'm sorry, him and (T.J.) Watt together would be like cheating. Him and (Aidan) Hutchinson together in Detroit, would be like cheating. I love it. And then Kansas City, that is just who they are right now."
"
Parsons is set to play on a fifth-year option in 2025, and he is lined up for a big second contract at or near the top of the edge rusher market. The Cowboys are teetering on the edge of going all-in (as Jerry Jones might define it) or resetting the roster around the contracts they've given to Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Trading Parsons before having to pony up to pay him, or just lose him for a compensatory draft pick, could land in the category of "never say never" for them.
The Lions showed a lot of interest in Parsons heading into the 2021 draft. He later revealed the Lions at one point said they would take him if he was there at No. 7 overall, and even though he was there they (rightly) chose Penei Sewell instead. Parsons went to the Cowboys five picks later. It's a remote possibility and will stay that way, but there's a non-zero chance Parson ends up in Detroit down the road.
