The Detroit Lions have finally released their 53-man roster for the 2026 season, and there aren't many surprises. Detroit wrapped up their preseason just one day ago, which gave them a very small window with which to finish evaluating talent and certain positional battles.

This year was always going to be difficult as it pertained to roster cuts. There were quite a few standouts in training camp and preseason challenging for a roster spot, but this Detroit roster is looking a lot more talented, healthy, and deep than in 2025.

Detroit Lions final 53-man roster revealed

QB (2): Jared Goff, Josh Dobbs

Goff and Dobbs made the most sense as a QB1/QB2 room despite Luke Altmyer's decent preseason. He should land back with the teams' practice squad if he goes unclaimed. Dobbs won out the backup job in Week 3 of the preseason, seemingly, with a fantastic two touchdown day.

RB (5): Jahmyr Gibbs, Isiah Pacheco, Sione Vaki, Jacob Saylors, Jabari Small

Sione Vaki survives the cut once again, with Jacob Saylors and Jabari Small rounding out a room that's going to be predominantly led by Jahmyr Gibbs. Vaki was hurt for much of training camp and didn't participate in the preseason, which makes this decision a bit questionable. Perhaps the Lions want to see if they can utilize him on special teams with Greg Dortch out of the picture.

Saylors led the Lions in the preseason in rushing yards.

WR (4): Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Isaac TeSlaa, Tay Martin

Detroit kept this room very light to begin the year, with Martin making the cut as a potential addition to the Lions' special teams unit. He had a great preseason, so this is much deserved. TeSlaa also managed to remain the teams' WR3 headed into 2026, despite the Lions bringing in some competition by way of Dortch.

TE (3): Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright, Jackson Meeks

It's an incredible story already for Meeks, who edged out Tyler Conklin for the TE3 spot on the Lions' roster. That is very deserved on Meeks' part after he looked great in preseason and as a special teams gunner. Detroit has hammered home how much they value that sort of two-way play from their fringe players.

OL (9): Penei Sewell, Tate Ratledge, Juice Scruggs, Christian Mahogany, Larry Borom, Blake Miller, Seth McLaughlin, Ben Bartch, Miles Frazier

Injured: Cade Mays, Giovanni Manu

The Lions had to carry some extra help at center into this year, but that's no knock on Seth McLaughlin, who has been trying to work into the Lions' starting line since Cade Mays went down with a wrist injury. While he's out, expect Juice Scruggs and McLaughlin to be rotating in and out at center.

Ben Bartch, who was injured throughout training camp but had a ton of promise and a solid Week 3 showing for the Lions in prseason, makes the cut, too.

DL (11): Alim McNeill, Tyleik Williams, Skyler Gill-Howard, Aidan Hutchinson, DJ Wonnum, Derrick Moore, Ahmed Hassanein, Tyler Lacy, Levi Onwuzurike, Eric O'Neill, Mekhi Wingo

This front has the potential to be the Lions' best since drafting Aidan Hutchinson. With a healthy Alim McNeill anchoring their tackle room, and expected boosts in play from Tyleik Williams, Levi Onwuzurike, and Tyler Lacy, the Lions might've solved their run defense and pass rushing woes from 2025.

Also, talk about the feel good group of the offseason: UDFA Eric O'Neill out of Rutgers University made the roster, alongside 6th round pick Skyler GIll-Howard and former 5th rounder Ahmed Hassanein. That is a hungry, hungry trio.

LB (6): Jack Campbell, Malcolm Rodriguez, Derrick Barnes, Devin White, Trevor Nowaske, Jimmy Rolder

This was a pretty quietly solid group in training camp and preseason, so there aren't any major surprises here. Rookie Jimmy Rolder, who was injured throughout camp and missed the preseason, made the cut over Joe Bachie here.

DB (10): D.J. Reed, Rock Ya-Sin, Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Keith Abney II, Roger McCreary, Chuck Clark, Avonte Maddox, Thomas Harper, Christian Izien, Khalil Dorsey

Injured: Kerby Joseph, Brian Branch

We are taking what we can get with this group headed into Week 1, which is fairly solid play from the projected starters at cornerback and safety, and some question marks as we get deeper down the bench at both positions. With Nick Whiteside released, there's immense pressure on Ennis Rakestraw Jr. to provide some decent work at CB3/4 for Detroit.

ST (3): Jake Bates, Jack Fox, Hogan Hatten

There was no real competition in this room, so this is pretty unsurprising.
