You don't have to explain a whole lot when it comes to the Detroit Lions and their fantasy outlook. We know Jahmyr Gibbs is going either no. 1 or no. 2 across every single draft this year -- and if he doesn't, consider yourself lucky, if you're pick holder no. 3.

Jared Goff will be a borderline QB1 but more along the lines of a safe QB2. Amon-Ra St. Brown is a stud. These are all pretty well-known facts.

But, throughout training camp and the preseason, we'll surely have some news and updates come through which will impact the fantasy world. And that's why we're here.

Consider this your end-all, be-all spot for all things fantasy-related throughout the Lions' camp and preseason.

Note: This story will be updated regularly throughout the Detroit Lions' training camp and preseason.

Latest Fantasy Football updates for the Lions: News, injuries and position battles

Isiah Pacheco dealing with knee injury -- 8/10

Head coach Dan Campbell told reporters that running back Isiah Pacheco has a sprained MCL, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Campbell believes that Pacheco will be ready for the season opener, but it's a blow to the tailback, who joined the team in March.

Jahmyr Gibbs cashes in with massive contract -- 8/6

It's a three-year deal worth "up to" $75 million for Gibbs (h/t ESPN's Adam Schefter). He narrowly edges out the Atlanta Falcons' Bijan Robinson to become the highest-paid RB in NFL history by average annual value.

Nothing to see here. Gibbs' payday was imminent, and now it's official. Managers can confidently keep drafting him with one of the first two picks in fantasy this season, regardless of format.

Jahmyr Gibbs shows up for work (kind of) -- 8/6

Gibbs was spotted participating in the walkthrough portion of the Lions' practice amid contract negotiations that seem to be near the finish line. He also gave a thumbs-up when asked if a deal was almost done (h/t Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press).

Still no team drills for Gibbs, but he's inching closer to full reintegration. Star RBs Bijan Robinson (Atlanta Falcons) and Jonathan Taylor's (Indianapolis Colts) securing paydays should pave the way for the Lions' stud to reset the market. It feels like a matter of when — not if.

Lions sign RB Raheem Blackshear after Sione Vaki's 'freak' injury -- 8/4

Detroit head coach Dan Campbell kicked off his Day 6 press conference by saying Vaki got poked in the eye and suffered a broken nose. Blackshear was signed later that evening, and wide receiver Lawrence Keys was waived in a corresponding move, per an official team announcement.

Vaki is "going to be out for a little bit" and "need[s] a minute," Campbell stated. The timing is particularly unfortunate, considering the 2024 fourth-round pick was making a case to cut into fellow backup running back Isiah Pacheco's workload. It was an unusual mishap, albeit severe enough to make an external addition.

Sam LaPorta seems to be turning a corner -- 8/4

LaPorta has had a slower start to camp as he returns from a back injury. He seems to be on a pitch count, but during this practice, he looked more like his old self. Jeremy Reisman of PrideOfDetroit reported that LaPorta quickly beat Chuck Clark during 1-on-1s. He then gained 30 yards on a corner route before scoring a 5-yard touchdown to end an 11-on-11 period. LaPorta is finding his groove again.

Isaac TeSlaa is still having an up and down summer -- 8/4

While TeSlaa has still struggled with creating separation, his physical ability came to light. TeSlaa snagged a contested catch, showcasing his ball skills. Despite that, the second-year receiver still needs to refine his route running.

Jabari Small played well while Isiah Pacheco struggled -- 8/4

Jeff Risdon of The Detroit Lions Podcast reported that Small took advantage of his increased reps with Jahmyr Gibbs sidelined. Small didn't have negative plays. His quickness and acceleration stood out. Risdon also called out that Small has a similar play style to Gibbs in both the run and pass game.

Pacheco had a mixed bag. He had some positive runs, yet relied on the offensive line more than Smalls did. Pacheco brings more power to the ground game but needs the offensive line to hold things down.

Isaac TeSlaa's early sophomore slump -- 8/2

TeSlaa's gotten out to a "slow start to camp" and arguably had his "worst day of practice," per Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit.

Let's not overreact just yet. It's no secret that TeSlaa is a raw, albeit hyper-athletic, receiver; growing pains are part of the learning process.

Jameson Williams meshing with Lions OC Drew Petzing -- 8/1

Williams is "proving to be an early playmaker" in Petzing's offense (h/t Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site). The Alabama product's blazing speed and knack for stretching the field have been on display.

Let the Jamo hype continue. While he's already broken out, the stars are aligning for him to take another step forward. His head coach, Dan Campbell, certainly agrees.

Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site says Sam LaPorta looks no worse for wear -- 8/1

LaPorta, who underwent surgery to repair a fully herniated disc this past November, "has picked up right where he left off."

We'll take "things you love to hear" for $500, Alex (rest in peace). LaPorta's "such a mismatch piece" for the Lions, and his presence cannot be overstated, as Twentyman highlighted.

Jameson Williams shows out and feels good doing it -- 7/30

After hauling in a pass along the right sideline, Williams asked reporters nearby if they were impressed. Colton Pouncy of The Athletic certainly was, noting that Jamo's confidence is "through the roof."

Why shouldn't Williams have the utmost belief in himself? He's coming off back-to-back 1,000-plus-yard campaigns with a very good chance of extending that streak to three in 2026. His current consensus WR27 average draft position (ADP) in point-per-reception (PPR) formats feels too low; we've seen him post WR22 and WR12 finishes consecutively.

Sione Vaki's split with Isiah Pacheco continues -- 7/30

Vaki is "looking to be as ready as possible for when his number is called" (h/t Erik Schlitt of Pride of Detroit).

This is probably not what Isiah Pacheco envisioned when he signed with the Lions in March. He'll have to earn his opportunities, particularly with Vaki's emergence.

Greg Dortch 'mixing in with the starters' -- 7/30

At the very least, Dortch "looks to have solidified himself as WR4," according to Erik Schlitt of Pride of Detroit.

Dortch has proven capable of producing in an expanded role when given a chance. He also has an established connection with Lions offensive coordinator Drew Petzing dating back to their overlapping stints with the Arizona Cardinals. An injury to any of Detroit's top three wideouts, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams or Isaac TeSlaa, might make the speedy slot man fantasy-viable.

Sione Vaki challenging Isiah Pacheco for RB2 job? -- 7/29

With star Jahmyr Gibbs not on the field due to contractual reasons, Pacheco got the first crack in seven-on-seven drills. However, it was Vaki who got the initial nod when the Lions went to 11-on-11, per Erik Schlitt of Pride of Detroit.

Many have anticipated Pacheco to be the "Knuckles" to Gibbs' "Sonic" after ex-Lions back David Montgomery was traded to the Houston Texans this offseason. Vaki's emergence is certainly noteworthy, especially given the circumstances surrounding Gibbs.

Sam LaPorta a full-go in Lions' first training camp practice -- 7/29

"I've had three or four good months under my belt of running, cutting, sprinting, now I'm hitting. Obviously, going to be in pads soon, so I'm excited," LaPorta told Richard Silva of the Detroit News.

With Drew Petzing now running the offense, and his affinity for tight ends, LaPorta could be in for a huge year. And, as he stated, he's healthy now after recovering from his back injury last year.

Adam Schefter reports Jahmyr Gibbs is not practicing due to potential contract concerns -- 7/29

As the Lions take the field for their first training camp practice, running back Jahmyr Gibbs will not be practicing. Schefter related it to the conversations had about Gibbs wanting a long-term contract. We'll see how this situation plays out, but it's not the way Detroit would've wanted to start camp -- and Gibbs fantasy owners can't be happy, either.

Under-the-radar names to keep tabs on

Isaac TeSlaa has some dynasty managers' hearts counting on a breakout

While Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams are must-roster players, there is a portion of the dynasty community that's waiting for Isaac TeSlaa to break out and potentially garner a larger role than Williams, who's been mostly a big-play guy.

TeSlaa scores touchdowns, but can he get more involved on a regular basis? He's someone to have on your radar, especially in dynasty formats. In fact, he should be rostered in a dynasty league.
