With just one preseason game left to go, the Detroit Lions are about to be in an unbelievably time crunch. They have just hours to wrap up their last game against the Indianapolis Colts on the road before beginning to make huge roster cuts.
There are a few remaining notable bubble players, namely rookies, but some journeymen like Roger McCreary and Ben Bartch who are looking to stick with a contending roster for the 2026 season. McCreary has risen throughout training camp and is likely to make the cut, while Bartch would need to have shown enough in the last week of training camp to stick due to injuries throughout the offseason.

We'll likely begin seeing some cuts roll in following their game on Saturday afternoon. So far, only injury-related releases have occurred, like with Damone Clark, Payton Turner, and Raheem Blackshear, for example.

Potential waiver wire targets from around the league
G Jordan Meredith
Meredith had a solid camp for the Las Vegas Raiders, but appears to be a potential victim to a youth victim in Sin City. Detroit has questions about their health and depth at the guard position, and could use extra help in their trenches with players like Ben Bartch, Miles Frazier, and Christian Mahogany not being the most reliable.
C Sedrick van Pran-Granger
Pran-Granger is also a potential victim to some solid center depth over in Buffalo, with the young Bills center a possible cut candidate if the team can't find a suitable trade partner. Pran-Granger is the exact kind of developmental center that the Lions should be looking to add to this roster, with Cade Mays a good, but temporary and already injured, solution there.
S Mark Perry
With still no word on a timeline for a return for either Brian Branch or Kerby Joseph, the Lions' safety depth remains thin. Chuck Clark has been great in camp, but that leaves Detroit to rely on an aging Avonte Maddox to bounce back from a down year in 2025. Adding someone like Perry - solid preseason and training camp for the Green Bay Packers, already in the division, and just 25 years old - could help shore up the room a bit.
