At some point in time, you have to acknowledge your missteps in NFL Free Agency, and move forward with someone else. At some point soon, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is going to have to do that with 2024 free agent acquisition Amik Robertson.
The Lions signed Robertson in the 2024 offseason to a relatively reasonable two-year deal worth $9.25 million. That seemed like a steal at the time the deal was made, especially because Robinson primarily plays in the slot. However, as time has gone on, the Lions have asked even more out of him, and he hasn't exactly answered the call.
The Lions' Thanksgiving debacle against the Green Bay Packers, in which they allowed four touchdown passes from Jordan Love, included a rough performance from Robertson, who was bad enough that he couldn't even address the media after the game.
Dan Campbell, Lions need to realize their error with cornerback Amik Robertson soon

Robertson was clearly flustered after getting picked on by the Packers on Thanksgiving. Pro Football Reference has credited Robertson with allowing a career-worst five touchdowns -- and counting -- so far this season. Despite forcing five fumbles and breaking up 17 passes over the last two seasons, Robertson has also allowed more air yards (398) this season than any other year in his NFL career.
And there are still five games left to be played.
The next two games the Lions play will be against the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams. It might not even be arguable that the Cowboys and Rams have the best wide receiver duos in the entire NFL (outside of Detroit, of course), and they'll undoubtedly be attacking Robertson.
Injuries obviously play a factor here, but Robertson has played more snaps than any other cornerback on Detroit's roster this year.
Now that he's getting exposed on deeper routes, Lions head coach Dan Campbell has no choice but to admit defeat and go a different direction. Changes need to be made when the playoffs are on the line and players just aren't making the plays they need to in order to win games.
Robertson took issue with what he believed to be a push-off by Christian Watson on a long touchdown pass that has really put him under the microscope this week. He sounded off on his Instagram page, including some choice words for Watson (and other NFL receivers).
Robertson definitely has the toughness to play in the slot in the NFL, but the Lions are asking too much of him. It's already cost them plenty to keep relying on him, but Dan Campbell needs to make a change with the Cowboys and Rams on deck.
