Dan Campbell can't hide pessimism about multiple Lions' injuries on short week
The Detroit Lions got another win in Week 12, 24-6 over the Indianapolis Colts, but multiple key players suffered injuries of some note during the game. Those injuries would be an issue during a normal week, but this is of course not a normal week ahead of facing the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving Day.
Wide receiver Kalif Raymond suffered a foot injury on a punt return. Left tackle Taylor Decker suffered knee and ankle injuries when was rolled up on from behind on a Jared Goff sack. Cornerback Carlton Davis suffered a left knee injury, and running back David Montgomery suffered a shoulder injury. Only Decker returned to the game against Indianapolis, though Montgomery suggested he could have.
During his Monday press conference, head coach Dan Campbell of course offered some injury updates.
"I think there’s probably three of them that I think it may be hard to get them there, but it’s really a day-to-day," Campbell said. "We’re going to know a lot more about some of these guys tomorrow than we do tod"It's going to come down to the wire with a number of them. That's the challenge with the short week. The good news is, I think most of these are not some long-term thing, but the problem is three days to turn around and play. That's where it becomes a bit of an issue. So, if we can't, we're prepared like we always are. Next man up. You got to hold the line, do your job and go compete."
Asked which three players he was talking about, Campbell named names-with a notable addition to the list.
"Right now, I mean, Decker, CD (Carlton Davis), Leaf (Kalif Raymond). Saint's (Amon-Ra St. Brown) a little banged up. We'll see how he recovers."
St. Brown showed up on Monday's estimated practice report with a knee injury. It appears he suffered the injury while returning a punt after Raymond left the game.
Dan Campbell not sounding optimistic about key Lions' injuries on a short week
Campbell made his regular Tuesday morning appearance on 97.1 The Ticket's "Costa and Jensen with Heather", with updated injury sentiment.
It's notable that Campbell didn't mention Montgomery on Monday afternoon when prompted to get specific, but he did on Tuesday morning. An educated guess says Raymond is likely to miss Thursday's game, with the others (Decker, Davis, Montgomery and St. Brown) genuinely questionable until further notice.
