The Detroit Lions selected Blake Miller in last week's NFL draft, and while he hasn't been a member of the franchise for long, he already seems excited to join the fray.
When Detroit selected Miller, they felt as if they were getting a tough player who fit their mindset in a big way. They probably didn't understand what a kindred spirit they would be receiving with regard to the coaching staff. Already, it seems Miller is going to be a fantastic fit.
While he was being introduced to the media, Miller was asked about the hours after he was picked by the Lions last week. As he said, it was a whirlwind of emotion that eventually culminated in raw excitement, especially when combined with video from his new head coach.
"Just continuing to look more and more (at video) and it just made me even more excited. Everything I read made me more excited. Seeing some clips of coach (Dan) Campbell, I already followed him beforehand, but just digging even deeper now and seeing more and more of them. I was ready to run through a wall at midnight just listening to him talk. I'm so fired up just to be a part of this this team (and) this organization."
Specifically, Miller shared that everything he has seen in every form has him ready to play for the Lions in 2026, especially considering how much he cares for his players.
"It was old clips of him talking to the team, addressing the team, talking to players, talking about players. Everything he says gets you fired up. You listen to him speak and you can hear the passion in his voice. You can hear the care in his voice and that resonates with me. It gets me fired up (and) gets me ready to go."
Ever since Campbell burst on the scene with the Lions in 2021, Detroit fans have been feeling that same passion and excitement when they watch the head coach interact with players and the media. Miller is obviously ready to show what he can do for his new staff, and the fact he is already charged up should make everyone excited.
Miller excited to keep improving with Lions like he did at Clemson
In terms of Miller, his excitement revolves around not only getting to play for Campbell and his new teammates, but see where his career may take him as well. He's made some fantastic strides from his first year at Clemson, and is only more motivated to see how good he can become after his first year in the league.
"It's crazy to see that four years went by really, really quickly. Just to kind of see where I was then and where I am now and then the excitement for where I'll be this time next year, continuing to get better. That part is super satisfying to me, the pursuit of perfection."

As excited as Miller might be to get to work with Campbell, the head coach is likely even more fired up to get a talent like his new offensive tackle in the building. Mentally, that is exactly where the Lions want their young players to be. Never satisfied with what they have done and only looking ahead to the improvements they can make for the future.
On the outside, it sure seems as if Campbell and Miller will be a match made in football heaven. Hearing how excited the rookie is to get to work should have everyone wishing it was time for training camp already.
