The situation with Haason Reddick and the New York Jets has taken a turn, with Reddick hiring a new agent (Drew Rosenhaus) and the Jets allowing him to seek a trade.

If they weren't looking to some degree after Marcus Davenport was injured, the Detroit Lions are now in the market for an edge rusher with Aidan Hutchinson out for the season. Reddick has persistently been offered as a trade target for them, before Hutchinson's injury, despite a lot of logic on and off the field that points to them having little or no interest.

Ryan Mathews of Pride of Detroit has a deeper look at why Reddick is not a great for the Lions.

Now, as Reddick is allowed to seek a trade and Rosenhaus does his work to find a new team for his new client, we can pretty much put any potential Reddick goes to the Lions to bed.

Haason Reddick to the Lions is not happening

According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, if the Jets traded Reddick to an NFC team they've have to send the Philadelphia Eagles a 2026 second-round pick. By NFL rule they can't trade him back to the Eagles, so that means 15 teams would lead to having to cede another draft pick to Philadelphia as a tentacle of the original trade.

The Jets sent a conditional 2026 third-round pick to the Eagles for Reddick in that original deal back in March. He will not reach the thresholds (10 sacks, 67.5 percent of the Jets' defensive snaps) required to have made that a 2026 second-rounder.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas didn't expect to be in the predicament he's in now when he agreed to surrender an additional pick to the Eagles (let alone a second-rounder) if he traded Reddick to an NFC team. But here he is, with 15 of a possible 31 teams he'd probably rather not trade someone who may never play for his team to.

Reddick has been a low-hanging fruit, default trade target offered up for the Lions, without good context or any idea of the all-around fit they prioritize. But now that the Jets would have to give another draft pick to the Eagles if they send him to an NFC team, it's a lead-pipe lock that Reddick will not be a Lion before the trade deadline.
