Aaron Glenn's reported top choice for a head coaching job is so obvious it might just be true.

The notion Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn would be a top head coaching candidate in this hiring cycle was proven out by his five interviews during the team's playoff bye week. Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported Glenn "crushed" the interviews, while pointing to two obvious top suitors.

Glenn can't do second, in-person interviews now until the Lions lose or the week off between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl. But as should be the case with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, teams who want to hire Glenn as their next head coach will wait as long as it takes to do so.

Glenn is a top candidate for the openings with the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints. Reports and predictions about his landing spot between the two vary seemingly by the day, but there is no doubt both teams want him and will make a strong push to hire him when the time comes.

If the Jets and Saints both want him, it will come down to which job Glenn prefers. And that assumes others with openings don't seriously enter the fray. It also assumes Glenn will want to leave the Lions, albeit with what looks to be a fading chance he won't be leaving when this hiring cycle is over.

In a recent column, Brian Costello of the New York Post had a concise note about Glenn.

"[Glenn] has told people the Jets are his first choice if he were to be offered a head coaching position," Costello wrote.

Glenn has deep ties to the Jets. They drafted him in 1994, and he spent the first eight years of his playing career there. He was also a scout for the Jets in 2012 and 2013, before he got into coaching.

In December, on his "Flight Deck" podcast, ESPN's Rich Cimini twice talked about Glenn's interest in the Jets' head coaching job. On the Dec. 4 episode, Cimini recalled a conversation from a couple years ago where Glenn called the Jets his "dream job."

Things could've certainly changed over that time, but Costello's new report suggests it has not. And ultimately, Glenn preferring the Jets' job over any other is not a shocker.
