Yes, Detroit Lions fans, you can finally celebrate a signing on defense!
The Lions have signed former Los Angeles Rams cornerback Roger McCreary to a one-year deal, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Detroit has landed a defender with starting experience, having impressed with the Tennessee Titans and Rams in 2025 and posting a 69.2 overall PFF grade in 2025.
It's great to see the team finally get active on the cornerback market, especially with some question marks around who would start at the slot. He's a speedy defensive back with size, which is something that the Lions certainly aren't used to having at their disposal in recent seasons.
CBS Sports' Zachary Pereles recently wrote about the potential of McCreary, sharing:
"Roger McCreary split his season between the Titans and the Rams, and the former second-round pick was PFF's No. 25 cornerback. He has always been a willing tackler. While the coverage metrics have been up and down, he's just 26 years old and he has allowed just four passing touchdowns as the primary defender over the past three seasons combined."

Between McCreary and the Lions' signing of Christian Izien, it feels like they're doing a decent job of finding low-cost answers to their potential holes in the secondary thanks to injuries suffered by Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph, and with question marks about Terrion Arnold's ability to make a meaningful leap.
Detroit is seriously stacking up these one-year contracts, which signals to fans that they're keeping their options open in 2027 and beyond with so many extensions down the pipeline to get done. With an extremely easy schedule, it's hard to fault them. At the same time, you'd love to see some attention given to their porous defensive line.
