No matter how you slice it, the Detroit Lions have some nice-looking uniforms.
It’s just hard to go wrong with Honolulu blue and silver. Impossible, even. They’re great colors.

But the Lions are still leaving greatness on the table. They are obsessed with monochrome, and it’s holding the whole wardrobe back.
In 2025, with the exception of their Thanksgiving throwbacks, the Lions wore a monochrome jersey-pants combination in every home game. Either all-blue or all-black, every week in Ford Field.
They sported their silver pants with the blue stripe just twice on the road, in Week 10 and Week 11.
It’s too bad. Because the Lions’ traditional home look– silver helmet, blue jersey and silver pants— is among the very best combinations in the sport. It just looks sleek, and makes the absolute best of the team’s color scheme. A perfect balance of blue and silver.
The Lions could be the best-dressed team in the league with their primaries and alternates considered. But they’re chasing a dream from two years ago.
In 2024, the Lions went 15-2— 8-0 on the road, and 5-2 at home. They wore their all-white uniforms (with white pants) in every single road game. They wore either all-blue or all-black in every home game except one– a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2.
That one loss to Tampa Bay in their traditional home combination seems to have scared the Lions off from ever wearing at Ford Field in a non-preseason game.
That, frankly, is silly.
Plea to Lions to change up monochromatic uniforms
Is it a superstition thing? If it is, it shouldn’t be. The “blueberries”, as they’re called, clearly aren’t magically making the Lions win games anymore. They missed the playoffs last year!
And this isn’t to say the blueberries shouldn’t be worn ever again. They’ve certainly got a place in the wardrobe as an occasional thing. But the Lions’ classic look is far superior, if only because the silver pants break up the monochrome and actually have striping on the side.
That’s really the issue here– the blue pants don’t have striping. This is a ridiculous, frivolous and meaningless thing to write about, but we are over 300 words in at this point. This is happening, sorry.
The blue pants and white pants are sauceless “practice pants”. They’re pajama pants. (The all-white uniforms are pretty nice, though.)

There used to be striping on the blue pants, but the Lions took it off in their 2024 rebrand to allow them to also pair the pants with their black alternate jerseys.

The only problem with that? They haven’t worn that combination in a game once in two years. Detroit has sported the all-black look six times since 2024. We’re waiting!
So, to conclude, the Lions’ monochrome-only era needs to end. It was a cool touch in 2024, but that was two seasons ago and this is a different team now. The uniforms weren’t making the team win back then anyways. The Lions were just insanely good that year.
And besides, they rocked the blueberries for the most disappointing loss in franchise history. That alone should prove the monochrome combo doesn’t give them any magic luck or anything.
If the team wants to put 2025 behind them, one superficial yet symbolic way to do that is to welcome a new aesthetic on the field. That would mean embracing the silver-striped pants yet again.
We got them for two games last year. Let’s get them for most games this year. Please?
