5 winners and 2 losers from Lions' Week 10 comeback win over the Texans
Good teams find a way to win. We know the Detroit Lions are a good team, but that limit of "finding a way to win" was pushed to its limits on Sunday night against the Houston Texans. Trailing 23-7 at halftime, with the offense looking disjointed, the Lions proceeded to score 19 unanswered points in the second half to rally for a 26-23 win.
Without further ado, let's take a look at our winners and losers from the Lions' Week 10 win.
5 winners and 2 losers from Lions' wild win over Texans
Winner: K Jake Bates
Bates is from the Houston area, so Sunday's performance was extra sweet for him. A 58-yard field goal to tie the game at 23 in the fourth quarter and the 52-yard game-winner both rubbed paint off the uprights, but they still count.
The Lions finally have a kicker they can count on, after the Holmes-Campbell regime went through them in turnstile fashion. Bates can make long kicks, and he has come up clutch in big moments a couple times this season.
Winner: CB Carlton Davis
Coming out of halftime, Dan Campbell called for the Lions' defense to get some takeaways. As NBC was airing that interview with Melissa Stark, Davis intercepted C.J. Stroud.
Later in the third quarter, Davis made another nice interception on a throw Stroud made too casually, thinking he had a wide-open throw for a touchdown.
According to Pro Football Focus' initial analysis, Davis allowed just two catches for 16 yards on six targets in his coverage on Sunday night. That translates to 2.7 yards per target allowed in his coverage, and Stroud had a 2.8 passer rating throwing into Davis' coverage.
Davis has really impacted the Lions' cornerback room this year, bringing an intangible edge to go along with generally solid play. He rose to the occasion twice on Sunday night when the Lions needed a play defensively.
