Looking to put an end to their defensive struggles, the Detroit Lions, with a 2-1 record, travel to Charlotte to face the Carolina Panthers in a Sunday Night Football showdown.
The Lions arrive in Charlotte fresh off a 31-24 win over the New York Jets at Ford Field. Both of the Lions' wins this season have come down to the final possession, and that could be the case on Sunday night against a Panthers team pursuing its second consecutive NFC South division title.
As the Lions take on the Panthers for the first time since Oct. 8, 2023, here are three bold predictions for the Sunday night showdown between Detroit and Carolina.
Jared Goff Over 330 Passing Yards
Lions quarterback Jared Goff has thrown for over 300 yards once this season, and that came in their 41-31 road loss in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills. In that loss, Goff threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns on 26-of-38 passing.
On Sunday, Goff should be able to reach a mark like this again, especially with the Panthers being without key players in their secondary. Look for Goff to reach over the 330-yard mark for the first time this season as he leads the Lions to a hard-fought win over the Panthers in primetime.
Jahmyr Gibbs Over 100 Rushing Yards
Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs had a strong showing in Detroit’s win over the Jets, rushing for 99 yards and two touchdowns. On Sunday, he’ll face a Panthers rush defense that has struggled so far this season, which should give Gibbs an advantage on Sunday.

Gibbs has rushed for 100-plus yards one other time this season, coming in the Lions' 31-30 season opener win over the Saints, where he rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns. While Gibbs won’t reach over 150 against the Panthers, he’ll still find a way to get over the 100-yard mark.
Both Teams Cross the 30-Point Mark
Given how good the Lions offense has been and how their defense has struggled, don’t be surprised if both teams score over 30-plus points on Sunday night. Bryce Young should be able to find success against a struggling Lions secondary, especially on passes to wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.
Young will throw for over 250 passing yards and expect McMillan to record a receiving touchdown as the Panthers fall short in an offensive shootout against the Lions.
