The 2023 season will be the 90th in Detroit Lions history, and part of the celebration will be a new jersey patch and logo.
The 2023 season will be the 90th in the history of the Detroit Lions franchise. In celebration of that landmark, they will have some commemerative events during the coming season. There will also be a logo patch on player jerseys.
Owner Sheila Ford-Hamp released a statement attached to the team’s announcement.
"It is truly amazing that we are celebrating 90 seasons of Lions football,” said Detroit Lions Principal Owner and Chair Sheila Hamp. “My family is proud to have been associated with the organization for 60 of those years and cherish the relationship the team has with the NFL, the city of Detroit, and our amazing Lions fans around the world. We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with our fans throughout the upcoming season.”"
The franchise was founded in Portsmouth, Ohio, before relocating to Detroit in 1934 and becoming the Detroit Lions. That inaugural season in Detroit was played at University of Detroit Stadium.

Here’s a look at the Lions’ 90th anniversary logo, via a sample jersey patch. The logo will also be displayed in-stadium at Ford Field.
Artifacts from significant moments in Detroit Lions history will be displayed throughout the concourses at Ford Field during the 2023 season. They will include:
-The Pro Football Hall of Fame jacket belonging to 2004 inductee Barry Sanders
-A game ball from the 1950s
-A 1957 NFL Championship ring
-Memorabilia from the modern era
There’s a ton of positive buzz around the Lions, coming off their great finish to the 2022 season and as the betting favorites to win the NFC North. High expectations for the coming season just happens to coincide with a historical anniversary for the franchise.
