Updated list of Detroit Lions 2023 draft picks after the Jeff Okudah trade
After the trade of cornerback Jeff Okudah to the Falcons, here’s an updated list of the Detroit Lions 2023 draft picks.
It went from faint, though somewhat obvious rumor to a done deal pretty quickly. But the Detroit Lions have reportedly traded cornerback Jeff Okudah, to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2023 fifth-round pick.
The Lions were already in a very good position for the draft later this month, with two first-round picks, two second-round picks and another pick in the top-85 overall.
Adding a Day 3 pick doesn’t feel all that consequential, but it does add a bit of extra draft capital to possibly move around the board on Day 3. As an example, the Lions don’t currently have a fourth or seventh-round pick this year due to trades that sent them away. And in a broad sense, it’s usually better to have more bites at the draft apple than less.
General manager Brad Holmes has found a few players on Day 3 of his first two drafts (Amon-Ra St. Brown, Malcolm Rodriguez, James Houston).
Updated list of Detroit Lions 2023 draft picks
With the addition of Atlanta’s fifth-round pick, here’s a freshly updated list of the picks the Lions now have in the 2023 NFL Draft.
First Round: No. 6 overall (from the Rams in the Matthew Stafford trade)
First Round: No. 18 overall
Second Round: No. 48 overall
Second Round: No. 55 overall (from the Vikings in the T.J. Hockenson trade)
Third Round: No. 81 overall
Fifth Round: No. 152 overall
Fifth Round: No. 159 overall (from the Falcons in the Jeff Okudah trade)
Sixth Round: No. 183 overall
Sixth Round: No. 194 overall (from the Broncos in the Trinity Benson trade)
The Lions were already among the teams with the most picks in the 2023 draft, and after the Okudah trade they now have nine selections. Adding more is possible, before or during the draft, but consolidating for a move up or two if the opportunity strikes feels more likely.
