The Detroit Lions are legimately in a “take the best player available” position in the 2023 NFL Draft, and here’s a fresh mock to try to narrow down to one possible outcome.

After a noteworthy run through free agency, the Detroit Lions now have four of the top 55 picks in the draft at the end of this month. They are legitimately in a position to take the best player available, with little regard to immediate, urgent or dire need. It’s a rare position for them, to be sure.

At the league meetings last week, head coach Dan Campbell confirmed as much.

"Free agency has given us the ability in areas to, man, we can do whatever we need to do in the draft,” Campbell said this week at the Annual League Meetings. “We feel pretty good about that. We don’t feel forced to do anything — ‘you got to take this. You got to …’ And so with that, I would say, man, it doesn’t matter what the position is if we can upgrade our team top to bottom? We will do that.”"

The Lions can have eyes on a promising present as the favorites to win the NFC North, and what looks like a promising future at the same time, in this year’s draft.

Using Pro Football Network’s free draft simulator, here’s a fresh seven-round mock draft for the Lions.
