As their plan possibly has to get creative now, here are three sneaky moves the Detroit Lions could make to get a backup quarterback.

The Detroit Lions move toward the 2023 season with high expectations, coming off a strong finish to the 2022 season and an above-.500 record. Under no circumstances can things be thrown completely off course due to not having a capable backup if starting quarterback Jared Goff misses time.

There can be no Tim Boyle-2021, Part Two, where there is no chance to win any games Goff might miss.

Since last season ended, Lions general manager Brad Holmes has openly acknowledged the need for better focus on the backup quarterback situation. That seemed to foreshadow signing a recognizable free agent, if nothing else.

That means keeping an eye out for surprising cuts to come, the trade market, etc.

As other options besides the draft possibly come to the surface for the Lions to pursue a backup quarterback, here are three sneaky moves they could consider.
