It’s actually not all that surprising, but Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is widely the early betting favorite for 2023 NFL Coach of the Year.

After the Detroit Lions won eight of their last 10 games to finish the 2022 season with a 9-8 mark, head coach Dan Campbell was somewhat snubbed from consideration for Coach of the Year. Not that he cared that much about it when he asked about it on the “ManningCast”.

"It would absolutely be an honor because there are some really good coaches that deserve that,” Campbell said. “But to me, there are better ones out there than me, by the job they did this year. Daboll would be one of those, just did a heck of a job. Doug Pederson. I can go down the list. Yeah, I’d be honored, but there are some coaches that would be really worthy of that.”"

Heading toward the 2023 season, with expectations higher for the Lions than they’ve been in a long, long time, Campbell is easy to place among the top candidates for Coach of the Year. Here in early March, the betting lines are firmly backing that up.

Dan Campbell lands as early betting favorite for 2023 Coach of the Year

On DraftKings Sportsbook, Campbell is the favorite to win 2023 Coach of the Year (+1100). Over on FanDuel Sportsbook, Campbell is also the favorite at +1100.

At Caesars Sportsbook, as tweeted by SportsLine on Wednesday, Campbell is the opening favorite to win NFL Coach of the Year at +1000.

Yes, it’s only March. But if he doesn’t remain the betting favorite, Campbell should stand among the top handful of betting favorites for 2023 NFL Coach of the Year from here to Week 1 in September, and into the season as long as the Lions don’t fall flat on their faces.
