4. Quarterback Jared Goff

Remaining Contract Terms: 2 years, $42.95 base salary; $62.95 million total cap hit remaining

That’s right, Jared Goff’s contract is an absolute bargain right now. What seemed like a contract that may be headed towards a cut at some point during the course of it, Goff is now producing at a level where he could ask for a raise. His annual average salary for the four-year, $134 million extension he signed in 2019 is below the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, Deshaun Watson, Matthew Stafford, and Kirk Cousins. All quarterbacks he largely outperformed this past season.

The market for quarterbacks is only getting more expensive. With extensions coming soon for the likes of Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, and potentially Lamar Jackson, Goff’s deal is set to fall down the list a little more in terms of average per year. He may have played himself into an extension with the Lions. team too.

3. Offensive Tackle Penei Sewell

Remaining Contract Terms: 2 years, $1.995 million base salary; $14.24 million cap hit remaining

Sewell has immediately become one of the best right tackles in the league over his first two years. He was a Pro Bowl selection this season for the first time in his career, and it’ll be first of many to come.

He has two years left on his rookie deal, and even with the inevitable pick up of his fifth-year option, the Lions are getting a premier bargain on Sewell while they continue to build the team elsewhere. While many instantly lamented the stars taken after Sewell in the 2021 draft, it has worked out. He is a certified future building block in Detroit.
