Lions running back Jamaal Williams is a nominee for Week 11’s FedEx Ground Player of the Week, and he’s a no-brainer to win the award.
Aside from a stout and opportunistic effort from the defense, running back Jamaal Wiliams was the star of Sunday’s 31-18 win over the New York Giants. His rushing yardage output wasn’t outstanding (17 carries for 64 yards), but he scored three times as the Lions rushed for 160 yards in the game.
Williams is now the NFL’s touchdown leader, rushing and/or receiving, with 12 rushing scores. He already has the third-most rushing touchdowns for a season in franchise history, behind Billy Sims (13, in 1980 and 1981) and Barry Sanders (16, in 1991).
It was easy for those who determine such things, but Williams is one of three nominees for FedEx Ground Player of the Week for Week 11.
The other nominees for Week 11’s FedEx Ground Player of the Week are Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs and Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris.
Jamaal Williams should be the winner of FedEx Ground Player of the Week for Week 11
Jacobs had 24 carries for 109 yards in the Raiders’ 22-16 overtime win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday. He is the only running back in the league, pending Monday night’s results, to rush for more than 100 yards this week.
Harris had his best game of the season on Sunday, with 20 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-30 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Not that winning a game should necessarily matter, but the Lions had a decisive and surprising win over the Giants. As they broke the will of what was a 7-2 team, Williams had a leading role on the offensive side.
Williams should win FedEx Ground Player of the Week for Week 11, as the Lions get noticed after a third straight win. You can vote for him here.
