When was the Detroit Lions last win on the road against the New York Giants?
The Detroit Lions don’t make trips to New York/New Jersey too often, so when is the last time they beat the New York Giants on the road?
The Detroit Lions won their first road game under head coach Dan Campbell in Week 10, and they’ve won back-to-back games for the first time under Campbell too. They’ll try to make it three wins in a row, and two in a row on the road, in Week 11 against the 7-2 New York Giants.
The Lions will actually play in MetLife Stadium twice this season, with a Week 15 game against the New York Jets also coming. But that schedule quirk does not obscure how trips to the New York/New Jersey area are not very frequent for the Lions.
A “when is the last time the Lions beat the Jets on the road?” post may be coming in about a month. But first on the schedule is the Giants, so…..
When is the last time the Detroit Lions beat the New York Giants on the road?
Per Football Database, the Lions lead the all-time series (including playoffs) against the Giants 24-21-1. The last meeting, in Detroit on Oct. 27, 2019, was a 31-26 win for the Lions. The Lions have won two in a row and three of the last four in the series.
Within that streak is the Lions last road win over the Giants, not that long ago. Sept. 18, 2017, a 24-10 victory for Detroit.
Eli Manning (239) had more passing yards than Matthew Stafford (122) in that game. But the Lions defense sacked Manning five times and intercepted him once. Ziggy Ansah had three sacks for Detroit.
The Lions ground game was a factor in the win, with Ameer Abdullah (17 carries for 86 yards) leading the way and Stafford adding 23 rushing yards on three attempts (including two runs for a first down). Eric Ebron and Marvin Jones were on the receiving end of Stafford’s touchdowns through the air. Jamal Agnew had a punt return touchdown to put the game away in the fourth quarter.
So the Lions can make it two road wins in a row over the Giants on Sunday. Without firm confirmation, that has to be a rare feat over the same opponent for the franchise in its recent history.
