On the high of back-to-back wins, here is a fresh prediction for the Detroit Lions over the rest of the 2022 season.
The Detroit Lions are now 3-6 after Sunday’s 31-30 win over the Chicago Bears. They have won back-to-back games, at home then on the road against division rivals. Preseason predictions of a record somewhere in the neighborhood of .500 are out the window now, or at least in need of being revised based on having information that only comes with you know, playing games.
The Lions have eight games left this season. Here’s the closing run, with each opponent’s current record.
Week 11: at New York Giants (7-2)
Week 12: vs. Buffalo Bills (6-3)
Week 13: vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-7)
Week 14: vs. Minnesota Vikings (8-1)
Week 15: at New York Jets (6-3)
Week 16: at Carolina Panthers (3-7)
Week 17: vs. Chicago Bears (3-7)
Week 18: at Green Bay Packers (4-6)
Predicting the rest of the Detroit Lions 2022 season
The Giants are 7-2, but they’ve hardly dominated some less than stellar opponents. The Bills are reeling after two straight losses, but they are still one of the best teams in the league. The Lions nearly beat the 8-1 Vikings back in Week 3. The 6-3 Jets don’t look like world beaters. Detroit has beaten the Packers and the Bears, for whatever that’s worth for the two games to end the season.
The Lions should get help at wide receiver from here on out. Josh Reynold has missed the last two games, but it seems possible he’ll be back next Sunday against the Giants. DJ Chark can come off IR this week, and Jameson Williams is slated for a December debut.
Let’s go ahead and predict the final eight games of the 2022 season for the Lions.
Week 11 at Giants-Loss
Week 12 vs. Bills-Loss
Week 13 vs. Jaguars-Win
Week 14 vs. Vikings-Loss
Week 15 at Jets-Win
Week 16 at Panthers-Win
Week 17 vs. Bears-Win
Week 18 at Packers-Loss
Going 4-4 from here on out would land the Lions at 7-10 for the season. Is that too optimistic? There’s certainly a segment of fans who’d like them to lose as much as possible to land one of the top quarterbacks in the 2023 draft.
But having two first-round picks again stands to helpful to the pursuit of a young quarterback. The rest of this season should be about trying to win games. The Lions have three on their remaining slate that feel very winnable, and I’ve got them pulling an “upset” against the Jets.
