Tom Kennedy had a big play for the Lions in Sunday’s win over the Bears, and Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill noticed.
With injuries continuing to thin the Detroit Lions wide receiver corps, Tom Kennedy has gotten an opportunity to play more lately. During Sunday’s win over the Chicago Bears he only had one catch, but he made it count.
On the drive that would finish with the game-winning touchdown by Jamaal Williams, Detroit had a 3rd-and-8 at the their own 42-yard line. Jared Goff hit Kennedy for a 44-yard gain to keep the drive going and set the Lions up with an opportunity in the red zone.
Kennedy has been a preseason star for the Lions, but fans across the league probably don’t know or much care who he is. Jaylon Johnson, Chicago’s best cornerback, certainly didn’t expect Kennedy to run by him the way he did on the big play.
Lions wide receiver Tom Kennedy gets some attention from Tyreek Hill
Apparently after having seen the highlights of the Lions’ win, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill had a comment about Kennedy on Monday morning.
As a player Welker came out of obscurity to be a reliable target for Tom Brady with the New England Patriots, followed by a couple years with Peyton Manning on the Denver Broncos. He’s also the Dolphins wide receivers coach, so Hill may have just taken an opportunity to needle his position coach while invoking Kennedy’s name.
The crying face emojis seem to give away that Hill was teasing Welker more than highly praising Kennedy.
It’s not totally clear if this is Kennedy’s official, verified Twitter account, but there was a response to Hill’s comment.
Even if it was merely in jest by Hill and more to tease Welker, getting noticed by one of the best receivers in the NFL and being compared to a potential future Hall of Famer isn’t too bad for Kennedy.
