Amid a few roster moves on Saturday, the Detroit Lions have activated fullback Jason Cabinda and promoted linebacker Jarrad Davis from the practice squad.

The Detroit Lions seem to do some roster maneuvering every Saturday, and this one was no different.

Per the team’s announcement, fullback Jason Cabinda has been activated off the PUP list and tight end Shane Zylstra has been signed to the active roster from the practice squad. Also, linebacker Jarrad Davis and wide receiver Stanley Berryhill have been elevated from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

Cabinda has yet to play this season, after an ankle injury followed by some complications from surgery. His presence is intangible more than anything, but he was a core special teamer last year and he may be able to help the Lions’ run game in short yardage.

Zylstra caught his first career touchdown last week, after he was elevated for the second time from the practice squad. Rather than spend a third allowed elevation, the Lions cut out that step and signed him to the active roster now.

Detroit Lions elevate former first-round pick from practice squad

Berryhill was elevated from the practice squad the last two weeks as well, and played a total of 17 snaps (16 on special teams). With DJ Chark on IR at least one more week and Josh Reynolds ruled out for Sunday, he will be an extra body at wide receiver.

Davis, the 21st overall pick by the Lions in 2017, came back to Detroit as a free agent last offseason and hasn’t played yet this season. But rookie linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez is dealing with an elbow injury, and if he does play his role is likely to be limited. Davis probably wouldn’t be elevated from the practice squad unless there was a very good chance he’ll play, and the Lions clearly want an extra linebacker available given Rodriguez’s situation.
