Jared Goff has been up-and-down all season, but he does make sense as a fantasy streamer against the Chicago Bears.
Much like his season to this point, weekly fantasy predictions on Lions quarterback Jared Goff have been hit-and-miss. Relying on him, especially as the fantasy regular season winds down, is risky business.
But the matchup in Week 10 looks good. The Chicago Bears are in the middle of the pack against quarterbacks (16.7 fantasy points allowed per game; Yahoo! scoring). But since they traded away Robert Quinn then Roquan Smith, back-to-back quarterbacks have had multiple passing touchdowns and at least 250 yards through the air against him.
The Lions and Bears is among the highest over-unders on the Week 9 NFL slate, with the Bears favored by less than four points depending on your preferred sportsbook. Chicago’s offense is also rolling lately, averaging north of 31 points per game over their last three, so Goff and the Lions’ offense will have to keep pace.
Jared Goff picking up steam as a fantasy streamer in Week 10
Austin Kas of numberFire has Goff atop his list of quarterback streamers for Week 10.
"Goff’s roster percentage has fallen as his red-hot start to the year has tapered off. He can get back to his high-scoring ways this week.Goff is taking on the Chicago Bears in what should be one of the week’s best fantasy environments — as weird as that would’ve been to say prior to the season. The game has a 48.5-point total and 3.0-point spread. Neither defense is any good, and both offenses have shown appealing upside. We have Goff projected for 16.54 fantasy points and slot him as the QB8."
Andy Behrens of Yahoo! Sports is on board too.
"Goff didn’t have the cleanest day against Green Bay, completing only 14 of 26 attempts for two scores and one interception (and various other near-interceptions). But he’s still the guy who gets to throw to Amon-Ra St. Brown and D’Andre Swift, plus he has a get-right matchup with Chicago on deck. The Bears recently traded away key defensive pieces and they’ve been carved up by Dak Prescott and Tua Tagovailoa in back-to-back weeks. Don’t be surprised if Goff produces a top-12-ish positional finish in a game with clear shootout potential."
With Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow on a bye this week, Goff is definitely somewhere in the quarterback streamer conversation in a favorable circumstance against the Bears.
Fantasy managers have to treat each week as a new week when it’s applicable, without regard for last week, Week 5, etc. Goff has QB1, top-12 potential in Week 10, but as always his range of outcomes is wide.
