As expected based on everything said all week long, Lions running back D’Andre Swift is indeed lined up for a limited role Sunday against the Packers.

Coming off his return to action last Sunday, Lions running back D’Andre Swift expressed optimism about a bigger role moving forward while acknowledging he’s still dealing with his shoulder and ankle issues. The next day, head coach Dan Campbell suggested Swift had too much work against the Dolphins.

"We probably gave Swift one too many carries,” Campbell said Tuesday on the Stoney & Jansen Show. “We love Swift, I’m glad he’s out there, but he’s not back. He’s giving us what he has but it’s just not – so maybe give another one of those carries to Jamaal (Williams). These are things you go through and you learn and figure out what you can do better.”"

Swift is in line to play Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. But multiple reports have confirmed his role will be limited.

Lions running back D’Andre Swift limited role confirms him as a risky fantasy start

As they should, shy of holding him out of any more games to allow him to fully heal up, the Lions are going to manage Swift’s workload carefully. Passing down work and critical plays seems sure to be the priority to have him out there, and the idea of having him on the field with Jamaal Williams shouldn’t be dismissed.

Being a Swift fantasy manager (raising my hand) means embracing risk. He doesn’t necessarily need a lot of snaps or touches to make a notable impact on the Lions’ offense, and deliver a lineup-worthy fantasy box score.

But as always, the range of outcomes is high for Swift this week–even leaving aside the fantasy angle. Lions’ fans will have their fingers crossed he doesn’t aggravate his injuries, and can be an impactful player with a limited role as the team’s tries to upset the Packers.
