It was ugly throughout, but the Detroit Lions survived to beat the Green Bay Packers and the shell of their future Hall of Fame signal caller on Sunday.

The two teams playing in Ford Field on Sunday combined for 14 penalties and 143 penalty yards. Dan Campbell went for it on a late fourth down, and the attempt failed. A late turnover seemed t be taken away from the home team.

But the Detroit Lions survived to beat the Green Bay Packers 15-9 on Sunday, ending their five-game winning streak and extending the Packers’ losing streak to five.

The Lions intercepted Aaron Rodgers not once, not twice, but three times on Sunday. Prior to Sunday, Rogers had a 108.8 passer rating with 52 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 24 career games against Detroit. On Sunday, with the three picks, he had a passer rating of 53.5.

Jared Goff made yet another ill-advised throw for an interception. But other than that the Lions’ signal caller played a pretty clean game, with two touchdown passes as he was not sacked.

With some circumstances beyond his control, Rodgers is not having his best season. But when it’s compared to his resume and coming off back-to-back MVP seasons, almost anything will look like a drop-off. Sunday’s game against the Lions looked like a get-right opportunity for the future Hall of Famer and the Green Bay offense. They were promptly shut out in the first half, fueled strongly by red zone turnovers, and scored nine points in the game.

Usually, when a Lions’ game gets ugly it mostly gets one-sided ugly for the team in Honolulu Blue and Silver. But it was ugly for both teams in equal measure this time around, and the Lions survived to put a mark in the win column–finally.
