Despite a significant downturn over the last two games, Ben Johnson doesn’t think the Detroit Lions offense has been figured out.

Through Week 4, the Detroit Lions had the NFL’s highest-scoring offense. Over the last two games, they have scored a total of six points with seven combined turnovers.

Those last two games have come on the road against two good defenses in the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys. Quarterback Jared Goff has been exposed again, after leading the league in touchdown passes through four weeks.

A softer landing is coming in Week 8 at home against the Miami Dolphins, and having D’Andre Swift, Amon-Ra St. Brown and some others as healthy as they’ve been in awhile will be greatly helpful, but offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has to continue to grow as a play-caller.

Johnson did his regular weekly media session on Thursday, and he didn’t sound too concerned about the recent offensive downturn for the Lions.

Ben Johnson doesn’t think he, Lions’ offense has been figured out

Here’s what Johnson said, via 97.1 The Ticket:

"We take a lot of pride in scouting ourselves and taking a look at what the defense is doing and potentially looking to exploit on us. We mix it up,” said Johnson. “It would be difficult to say that any defense we’ve faced so far has actually practiced a play that we ran in the game, certainly not identical to how we’ve ran it in the game. We have a lot of variety, we’re very multiple. That’s at our core and we want to continue doing that.So I don’t believe that defenses are being able to catch up to us. For us offensively, it comes down to execution.”"

Over the first four games, Detroit turned the ball over a total of four times. They topped that in the second half against Dallas in Week 7, which Johnson spoke directly to.

"The turnovers were the biggest story of the game for us last week,” Johnson said."

Johnson would never say, in plain words, “yeah, we’ve been figured out.” The Lions’ offensive execution has been dreadful the last two games, spearheaded by the bad side of Goff coming out. To keep pace with good Dolphins’ offense on Sunday, a much cleaner game will be mandatory from the Detroit offense.
