When is the last time the Detroit Lions won in Dallas?

The Detroit Lions will hit the road to take on the Dallas Cowboys this week, so when is the last time they won in Dallas?

The last playoff game the Detroit Lions won came over the Dallas Cowboys in January of 1992, a 38-6 domination by the Lions of a Cowboys’ team that would go on to win three of the next four Super Bowls.

Coming off a much-needed bye week, this year’s Lions will hit the road to take on the Cowboys on Sunday. The last matchup between the two teams was in 2019, a 35-27 win for the Cowboys in Detroit.

The two teams last played in Dallas the season before that, another win for Dallas but on their home field. The Cowboys have won the last three regular season matchups, and four in a row counting a controversial playoff game in January of 2015 I’ll spare Lions’ fans a rehash of.

When is the last time the Detroit Lions won in Dallas?

Counting three playoff games, the Lions and Cowboys have played each other 29 times and Dallas leads the all-time series 17-12.

So when is the last time the Lions went down to Dallas and left town with a win?

On Oct. 2, 2011, the Lions beat the Cowboys 34-30 in Arlington.

Matthew Stafford completed less than half of his passes in the game (21-for-43), for 240 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. On the other side Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo went 34-for-47 for 331 yards and three touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions.

Romo will be on the call as the game analyst or Sunday’s Lions-Cowboys game on CBS.

The Lions leading rusher that day in 2011 was Jahvid Best (11 carries for 47 yards), as put up 70 total yards. Calvin Johnson had eight receptions for 96 yards and both of Stafford’s touchdowns. Tight end Brandon Pettigew chipped in six catches for 64 yards.

Tight end Jason Witten (eight catches for 94 yards and a touchdown) and wide receiver Laurent Robinson (seven catches for 116 yards) were the leading receivers on that day for Dallas.

Jason Hanson was still kicking for the Lions, in his second-to-last season. The win moved them to 4-0, and they went on to finish 10-6 with a playoff berth in Jim Schwartz’s third season as head coach.

The odds are against the Lions going on the road and winning on Sunday. But if they can keep it close early…..
