The Detroit Lions will surely be in the market to draft a quarterback next April, and one the top signal caller prospects sent fans a message last weekend.

With a deeper class of prospects at the position than there was this past April, the Detroit Lions will likely come out of the 2023 NFL Draft with a quarterback. It’s really just a matter of where they’ll take one, and whether or not they’ll be in position get one of the top guys early in the first round.

Having two first-round picks again will be helpful, to either take a quarterback in the first round if they think one is worthy at one of the picks or to combined in a trade up.

C.J. Stroud advanced himself as a top prospect for the 2023 draft with a big 2021 season for the Ohio State Buckeyes. (4,435 yards, 44 touchdowns, six interceptions). He has carried that right into this season, with 24 touchdown passes and three interceptions through six games.

In the Buckeyes’ last game, Oct. 8 against Michigan State, Stroud went 21-for-26 for 361 yards and six touchdowns (with one interception).

The game was in East Lansing, so any crossover Spartans-Lions fans could’ve been on-site to see Stroud play as he undressed Michigan State’s pass defense.

A Michigan State fan got close to the Ohio State sideline and told Stroud to “come to the Lions.”

"It’s up to God,” Stroud responded."

Depending on who has those picks, Stroud may go first or second overall next April. At this point a fall out of the top-five or so would be pretty surprising.

It may indeed take some divine intervention, or just enough black marks on him during the pre-draft process to drop him down team’s boards a bit, for the Lions to have their best chance to land Stroud. If they want him, of course.
