After their second preseason game, a win over the Indianapolis Colts, here’s a fresh 53-man roster projection for the Detroit Lions.
The Detroit Lions beat the Indianapolis Colts 27-26 on Saturday, as they hung on for their first preseason win since 2018.
The Lions and every NFL team have to cut from 85 players down to 80 on Tuesday this coming week. Then the final cutdown day, all the way down to 53, comes on Aug. 30. Teams could go below 80 players for their preseason finale, but it’s unlikely as your trying to field a team and not play key players in the last of the three preseason contests.
Without further ado, here is a 53-man roster projection for the Detroit Lions after their second preseason game.
Detroit Lions: 53-man roster projection after second preseason game
Quarterbacks (2): Jared Goff, David Blough
The third preseason game, against the Steelers, will be the rubber match between Blough and Tim Boyle in the battle to be Jared Goff’s backup. Neither had a great showing against the Colts, but Blough did fail to all but lock up the job when it feels like he could have.
Still, I’ve got Blough winning the job and Boyle being let go at final cuts.
Running Backs (5): D’Andre Swift, Jamaal Williams, Craig Reynolds, Justin Jackson, Godwin Igwebuike
Reynolds, Jackson and Igwebuike all did some good things on the ground against Indianapolis. Reynolds firmed his grip on the RB3 spot, while Jackson made his case to stick around and Igwebuike scored what proved to be the winning touchdown.
