Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin tried to start something with Jamaal Williams, but the Lions running back ended it rather quickly.

Leading into Saturday’s preseason game, the Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts had joint practices on Wednesday and Thursday. As a result, many starters on both sides are resting for the game.

The practices were beneficial, at times intense and a good test for the Lions against a talented Colts’ team that’s a playoff contender. Head coach Dan Campbell said he felt like his team was not overmatched on that practice field, and they weren’t.

Friday afternoon NFL Films put out a tweet, captioned “Nothing like a chippy joint practice” with a popcorn emoji. The clip shows one of what seems to be one of several pass protections reps between Lions running back Jamaal Williams and Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin. Williams did not hide his celebration of winning that particular rep.

Franklin did not appreciate that, and decided to comment for some reason.

"Only in the League can a bum lose 3 reps in a row and still yell like he won. Hope you ready to cry about another losing season champ,” Franklin tweeted."

Jamaal Williams puts quick end to beef with Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin

Williams was not, as expected, going to take Franklin’s comments lying down.

"Sir I literally made you look stupid in team period when you missed an open field tackle and I ran you and the safety for a touchdown during team period pls go bout your business (smile emojis) you not bout tht when it’s Go time"

Calling Franklin “sir” was the perfect starting point for Williams to troll Franklin and put him in his place in one fair swoop.

The beef was not going to continue on the game field Saturday, since Williams did not play as the Lions rested regulars. Williams ended it quickly and before then anyway.
