Ahead of Tuesday’s premiere episode of “Hard Knocks” featuring the Detroit Lions, check out the official preview clip from HBO.

The wait is almost over, down to hours as I write this. The first episode of “Hard Knocks” featuring the Detroit Lions will air Tuesday night at 10 p.m ET on HBO and to stream on HBO Max.

The Lions surely already have, and will surely continue to, provide great fodder for the HBO/NFL Films cameras. From the quotable head coach Dan Campbell, to the intensity of his coaching staff, to No. 2 overall pick Aidan Hutchinson, to running back Jamaal Williams, to position battles that are going on.

There may be great things that don’t make the show over the course of five hour-long episodes, culminating in the finale on Sept. 6.

HBO has released a preview clip for Tuesday’s first episode, focused on the banter between defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley. That practice field banter is not new to Lions’ beat writers, but the pull up of the curtain for a broader audience is exactly what “Hard Knocks” is meant to do.

The best quote, among a solid selection from both guys in just over a minute, comes from Staley, talking about Glenn (NSFW):

"I truly love him…but I wanna f-k him up between the lines, I’ma tell you straight up.”"

In the clip, Campbell is briefly seen right next to Glenn and Staley as they go back and forth after rookie linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez made a nice play to snuff out a screen. The head coach surely loves the banter, rooted in respect and love two of his top assistants have for each other.
