HBO’s has released the first trailer for “Hard Knocks” featuring the Detroit Lions.

The Detroit Lions will be featured on this season of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” and the first trailer of the season has been released.

The trailer doesn’t show all that much, so it’s a good teaser. It’s mostly clips of what head coach Dan Campbell has said to the team.

How did the Detroit Lions end up on ‘Hard Knocks’?

The Lions have been eligible for the HBO series for the last couple of seasons but were never chosen until this year. In a recent interview with the Detroit Free Press‘s Dave Birkett (subscription required), ‘Hard Knocks’ director Shannon Furman explained why the team was chosen for the 2022 season.

"“I think everybody knows kind of the rules at this point to, like, if we force someone. We don’t like to force anyone. But there was some interest from both the Lions and the Jets, I think, which were the two teams that were on the list this year. But there was a mutual agreement, the Lions kind of reached out, we were on board. Whenever anyone seems like they’re on board and wants to do it, we want to do it.”“Yeah. Yeah, and they did their homework. They definitely did their homework and asked around to figure out how the show works and what goes on and if they think they should just — since they’re on the list of being forced — should they just do it? And I think that that was why they decided to do that. It’s been an awesome partnership so far. It’s been great to work with them.”"

Though general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell would like some things not to be captured on camera as they prepare for the 2022 season, the entire organization is embracing being in the spotlight.

This isn’t about everyone seeing the Lions go through training camp, it’s about showing people that this is a new era of professional football in Detroit. Campbell is saying the right things, and now he gets a chance to show the world how he’s changing the culture.

The first episode of HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’ will premiere on August 9th at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.
