Being overlooked or snubbed is part of the deal with the Detroit Lions, so it’s not all that shocking CBS Sports’ top 100 NFL players list ignores them.

When it comes to the Detroit Lions and Motor City sports teams in general, the local vibe is “Detroit vs. Everybody.” Given the lack of success the local major pro teams in Detroit have had lately, it’s easy to carry that sentiment when players on said teams get disrespected, overlooked or outright completely doubted.

Almost everywhere you look where a list or ranking of some sort has been the made this offseason, the Lions have been disregarded. Disregarded might be a strong word, but overlooked, forgotten about, etc. would fit otherwise. Some of it is well-founded, as an indication of “let’s see it”.

Even with a naturally better roster for 2022, the Lions still have a long way to go before they are a contending team with the talent befitting it. And another list has shown the league-wide view of them.

Pete Prisco of CBS Sports is out with his list of the top 100 NFL players for 2022. Multiple teams are well-represented, and there is not a single Detroit Lion on the list.

Offensive tackle Penei Sewell is the first name listed in the lengthy “Honorable Mention” category though. He’s the only Lion seen anywhere on what becomes close to a top 150 players list after all the honorable mentions.

Center Frank Ragnow seems worthy of an honorable mention as well, given the sheer unabashed volume of them. But after missing 13 games last season, maybe he was out of sight out of mind for Prisco.

If the Lions improve their win total as it looks like they could this year with an easier schedule, the specific acknowledgement on a national scale (individual and team) should follow more easily.
