The Detroit Lions signed 12 undrafted free agents, and these five could make a legit run at a spot on the 53-man roster.

The Detroit Lions added 12 names to their 2022 rookie class with their new crop of undrafted free agents.

While often long shots for the final 53-man roster in August, Detroit’s undrafted rookie class made their fair share of contributions throughout the season, perhaps none more notable than cornerback Jerry Jacobs.

Jacobs was pressed into action after early season injuries at the cornerback position left the team with little depth. The rookie held his own opposite third year starter Amani Oruwariye and racked up 27 solo tackles to go along with seven pass breakups and a forced fumble. Jacobs earned the fourth highest grade among rookie cornerbacks from Pro Football Focus, slightly ahead of 29th overall pick Eric Stokes of the Green Bay Packers.

Other undrafted rookies who made noted contributions in 2021 were tight end Brock Wright, who scored two touchdowns in seven games on the active roster, and cornerback AJ Parker. Parker impressed in training camp last year and won the starting nickel corner role outright.

Could any of the 2022 undrafted free agents the Lions signed make the 53-man roster and/or make a noteworthy contribution? These five seem to have a good chance.
