Ex-Lion Kyle Sloter and Breakers beat the Bandits in USFL Week 2
In the battle of former Lions quarterbacks, Kyle Sloter led New Orleans to a victory of over Jordan Ta’amu and Tampa Bay.
Week 2 of the USFL featured a faceoff of former Detroit Lions quarterbacks (however loosely that term should be used), as Kyle Sloter and the New Orleans Breakers took on Jordan Ta’amu and the Tampa Bay Bandits.
Sloter drove the Breakers down the field on their first offensive drive, capping it off with the first touchdown of the game on a one-yard run. He successfully repeated the “hurry-up” process on the second drive and it resulted in a six-yard touchdown run by T.J. Logan.
The Breakers would have scored on their third offensive series, but the Bandits Christian Campbell blocked a 29-yard field goal attempt. The blocked field goal energized the Tampa Bay offense as they converted a 22-yard field goal after a long offensive drive orchestrated by Bandits quarterback Jordan Ta’amu.
Spectacular catches by wide receivers Jonathan Adams Jr. and Shawn Poindexter led to New Orleans’ third touchdown. NFL scouts better keep an eye on Adams, who made a spectacular one-handed catch reminiscent of Odell Beckham Jr. On the next play, Poindexter caught a similar high-pointed pass from Sloter for the third Breakers’ touchdown.

The quarterback showdown was won by Sloter, who completed 28 of 39 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns. He looked pretty good for a guy who was a professional understudy behind NFL quarterbacks Case Keenum, Kirk Cousins and Matthew Stafford. His quarterback rating for the game was 101.
Tampa Bay, led by Ta’amu, managed just three points in the game. He went just 8-for-18 for 62 yards with an interception through the air, with a team-high 45 rushing yards.
In Week 3 of the USFL schedule, New Orleans (2-0) hosts the Birmingham Stallions (2-0) in the late game (8 p.m ET) on Saturday, April 30. Tampa Bay (1-1) faces the Houston Gamblers (1-1) in the earlier game (4 p.m ET) Saturday.
