After missing out on at least one prominent target at the position, the Detroit Lions can and should be in on these four free agent safeties.

Safety stood as a position of clear need for the Detroit Lions entering free agency. Re-signing Tracy Walker was always the most likely outcome, but they could still sign someone to pair with him on the back end.

Marcus Williams was a popular free agent target for the Lions, due to a past tie with defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and his development into a good player, but he has agreed to terms on a big contract (five years, $70 million) with the Baltimore Ravens. Also off the board, pending deals becoming totally official later on Wednesday, are Quandre Diggs, Marcus Maye, Justin Reid, Jordan Whitehead and Xavier Woods among free agent safeties.

The Lions could draft a safety fairly early in April’s draft and theoretically cover their need. But the free agent market at the position, while thinning, still has a lot of good options available.

After missing out on Willliams and some others, here are four remaining free agent safeties the Detroit Lions could (or should) have on their radar.
