The Detroit Lions going all defense with two first-round picks is not a reach, but Daniel Jeremiah has them doing so in a unique way in his mock draft 2.0.

The Detroit Lions of course have two first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, one early (No. 2) and one as late as possible on Day 1 (No. 32). It makes for multiple paths that could be successful, and multiple scenarios as mock drafts come out.

The No. 2 overall pick is really between one of two edge rushers for the Lions–Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson and Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux. Getting cute, and say taking a safety, is not likely or realistic. But there a wide array of options and positions of need that’ll be on the radar with the No. 32 pick, with the added context of Detroit also have the 34th overall pick.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah is out with his Mock Draft 2.0, and he has the Lions going all defense with their two first-round picks.

Lions go uniquely all-defense in Daniel Jeremiah’s second 2022 mock

With the second pick, Jeremiah has the Lions taking Hutchinson, who happens to be his No.1-ranked player overall.

"Hutchinson is a natural fit for the Lions as they continue their rebuild. He is my top-rated player in the draft."

Down at No. 32 Jeremiah has the Lions going defense again, but taking someone that was not at all expected.

"32-Detroit Lions (via the Rams)-Jordan Davis, Georgia, DTThe Lions could look for a QB here, but Davis would be a nice addition to a young defensive unit."

The Lions could certainly use some help on the interior defensive line. Davis is a massive man (6-foot-5, 350 pounds) who is not easily moved and can beat double teams. He has movement ability and effort level that defies that size, along with the ability to play nose or three-technique.

Davis is routinely being mocked within the first 25 picks, with the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 17 easily the consensus fit. But it’s not out of the question he falls some, and the Lions could indeed have a chance to snap him up to end Day 1.
