If the Detroit Lions lose Tracy Walker in free agency, who could be signed to replace him?
Under a new Lions coaching staff that used him more ideally, safety Tracy Walker had a breakthrough season in 2021 as he led the team with 108 tackles (74 solo) along with six pass breakups, one interception and one sack. He is now one of two safeties in Lions history with multiple 100-plus tackles seasons (Bennie Blades is the other), and he was one of just five safeties in the league this season with at least 100 tackles, one interception and one sack.
Walker is also a free agent, and he surely made himself some money with a great season. Walker has said all the right things about wanting to be back in Detroit, but he did acknowledge how it’d be nice to get paid too.
“I want to be a part of this tradition that’s been started here. But, at the end of the day, that’s not up to me, honestly. I’m here just to do what I do best and do my job,” Walker said. “That’s for the upstairs and for my agents to decide. So, as far as that, I let them handle that, and I control what I control and that’s by making plays on the field.”
It’s very likely the Lions re-sign Walker. But what it another team makes an offer he can’t (and absolutely should not) refuse?
