As the 2022 Senior Bowl rosters take shape, the Detroit Lions now know the wide receivers they’ll be working closest with over the course of the week.

As the Detroit Lions coaching staff prepares to head down to the 2022 Senior Bowl and kick off the stretch run of the pre-draft process, they know which quarterbacks they’ll get a close look at over the course of the practice week–Liberty’s Malik Willis, North Carolina’s Sam Howell and Western Kentucky’s Bailey Zappe.

On Friday morning, the wide receivers for each Senior Bowl roster were announced.

The Lions are coaching the American Team down in Mobile. Here are the wide receivers they’ll have on their roster.

Calvin Austin III, Memphis
Jalen Tolbert, South Alabama
Dontario Drummond, Ole Miss
Velus Jones Jr., Tennessee
Reggie Roberson Jr., SMU
Danny Gray, SMU
Tre Turner, Virginia Tech

On the opposite side, here are the wide receivers for the the National Team, coached by the New York Jets.

Jahan Dotson, Penn State
Romeo Doubs, Nevada
Alec Pierce, Cincinnati
Khalil Shakir, Boise State
Bo Melton, Rutgers
Christian Watson, North Dakota State

Will the Detroit Lions draft one of their Senior Bowl wide receivers?

Tolbert, Drummond and Roberson have landed on the radar for the Lions in the later rounds in mock drafts and on broader lists of draft prospects to watch over the course of the college season. None of the seven they will get a close look at over the course of the practice week are likely first-round picks, but Tolbert, Drummond and Austin could land on the radar in Round 2 or Round 3.

On the opposite roster, Dotson, Doubs and Pierce could be of interest to the Lions from the first round (Dotson) into the third or fourth (Doubs and Pierce).

The Lions feel sure to come out of the 2022 draft with a wide receiver. The value of coaching the Senior Bowl is further confirmed.
